CONTIPARK underground car park becomes a cinema
“Roll film!” in Graz underground car park
8. June 2018

From 4 pm, the second basement of the CONTIPARK garage becomes a cinema. A cooperation between the Austrian association “Architekturtage” and the car park operator CONTIPARK makes this short-term conversion of the parking site possible.
A total of four short films will be shown at this unusual venue. They all have an experimental character, three of them come from young Austrian filmmakers. All four films are about the use of public space, but not about buildings or cities, but always about the interaction between built space and the people who use it. Through the demonstration in an underground car park, interested guests can discover extraordinary rooms in an extraordinary location.
“Operation Jane Walk” explores post-apocalyptic New York in the style of an ego shooter. The audience slips into the role of an avatar in a computer game. “Real” approaches driving an airport that was built in Spanish nowhere and is a symptom of the real estate and construction bubble in Spain before the financial crisis. Spectators can expect long rides through an empty landscape. The nine-minute film “Sava Buildering” follows two parkours runners on a straight line through Belgrade and shows how they acquire urban space in their very own way. The Swiss work “Transitions” describes the transformation from an empty landscape to a populated one.
The presentation is one of the program points of the Architecture Days currently taking place in Austria. The two-day series of events is held biennially and aims to bring contemporary architectural projects closer to a broad public. Under the title “Architecture moves”, the Architecture Days 2018 will focus on architecture in film. Films will therefore also be shown at other unusual venues in Graz on 8 and 9 June.
